Profi MC115 Test

A 2008 McCormick MC115 is put to the test

The McCormick MC115 is the subject of a long-term test appraisal in Profi International magazine's March 2011 edition - and so far the tractor has come in for a fair bit of praise.

The early 2008 example is clocking up 1000-hours a year working on a 283ha farm running a suckler herd, sheep and 120ha of arable crops. Main tasks include bale and grain haulage, mowing, tedding and rolling. It also spends three hours a day operating a diet feeder in the winter months.

Three different operators use the tractor and all are happy with the MC's smooth-shifting four-speed powershift, as well as the push-back pick-hitch supplied as standard given that the tractor frequently switches between different trailers when carting grain. The air suspension seat is highly rated and combined with the independent suspension front axle is reckoned by the owner to give superior ride comfort to tractors of another make on the farm. There are some niggles, of course. The operators would prefer a smaller gap between second and third ranges, a little more oddments storage would be welcome and they reckon the accelerator pedal needs setting at a different angle.

But the first McCormick in this farm's fleet has impressed its owner with its no-frills spec and reliability, and as a result he planned to keep it longer than his normal three-year change-over period.
