Trekker tracked down in Wales

A North Wales newspaper has tracked down a rarity in Britain – a tracklayer tractor that goes under the name of ‘Trekker’.

The Daily Post reports on the compact 98hp Landini Trekker being used by farmer Griffith Williams to drain land that became a no-go area to wheeled tractors in recent years because of heavy rainfall. It also compromised his grazing options and caused a big increase in sheep losses through liver fluke.

The Trekker is more commonly seen on precarious hillsides in Italy, as well as in vineyards and orchards in Meditteranean countries. But the machine is proving its worth on the Welsh farm and is destined for some hill work there too.

Landini dealer Dewi Thomas of DG Thomas Agri supplied the machine after fitting a weather cab, and also a ‘dozer blade, which has been used to level spoil dug from ditches over the years.
